The Yakovlev Yak-9UT is a single-engine Soviet fighter aircraft that was used during the Great Patriotic War. It was a modified version of the Yak-9U. Despite the effectiveness and reliability of the Soviet fighters in combat, the military was concerned about the power of the standard large-caliber machine guns and motor cannons used in Yak aircraft. Consequently, by the end of 1944, work began on strengthening the Yak-9U's armament. The Yak-9UT prototype received 20 mm B-20S UBS cannons and 37 mm N-37 cannons instead of the original heavy machine guns and ShVAK motor cannons. The designers made it possible install 23 mm NS-23 or 45 mm NS-45 cannons instead of the N-37. First built in February 1945, the fighter successfully passed all state tests and went into production, albeit with a 23 mm motor gun instead of a 37 mm one. Between February and May 1945, a total of 282 Yak-9UTs were manufactured, some of which were used in the final weeks of the Great Patriotic War.
The Yak-9UT was introduced in Update 1.37. This fighter is very similar to its predecessor, the Yak-9U, in terms of flight characteristics. Excellent maneuverability and decent speed at low to medium altitudes allow the Yak-9UT to compete with any opponent on equal terms, although its low maximum dive speed will impact performance in some situations. This Soviet fighter differs significantly from the Yak-9U in terms of armament. It is equipped with two 20mm cannons and, depending on the player's choice, one 23mm, 37mm, or 45mm cannon. This weaponry can easily destroy enemy aircraft or tanks.
