The 89ft PT-810 was a PT boat developed as part of a programme to create fast gunboats for brown water service, based on lessons learnt during the Second World War. Four boats, numbered PT-809 to PT-812, were constructed with different layouts. The PT-810 was laid down on 1 December 1948 at the Bath Iron Works, Maine, launched on 2 June 1950, and commissioned on 24 November 1951. The PT-810 stands out among her batch for her wooden hull construction as opposed to the aluminium hull of the rest of the batch. During the 1950s, the PT-810, along with the other three boats, was used as a testbed for new weapons and machinery. Ultimately, due to advancements in anti-ship missiles (AShM), the US Navy considered the concept of the PT boat obsolete, and all four boats were decommissioned in 1960. On 21 December 1962, the PT-810 was recommissioned and redesignated as gunboat PTF-1 for the Navy SEALs to be used in clandestine operations in Vietnam. She served in this capacity before being sunk as a target off the coast of Vietnam on 1 August 1965.
Introduced during Update 1.77 "Advancing Storm", the PT-810 marks a significant improvement over the previous WWII-era PT boats, most notably in firepower, while retaining high speed and agility. The PT-810 features a pair of 40 mm Bofors and twin 20 mm Oerlikon autocannons as her main armament, giving her devastating firepower against simple model ships and aircraft. In addition, she has access to four Mk.16 torpedoes, incredibly powerful weapons that can prove fatal even against battleships. However, being a wooden-hull boat, the PT-810's survivability is rather poor, especially against destroyer-calibre guns that become increasingly common.
