The Tu-2S (NATO reporting name: "Bat") was a frontline bomber developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in 1943. By mid-1941, the Tu-2 project was ready for production, but the Great Patriotic War began, causing factories and design bureaus to evacuate. There was also a shortage of scarce parts and materials, and troops demanded more fighter planes. These factors meant that production of the Tu-2 ended with the 80th aircraft. However, work on perfecting the aircraft continued. Most of the initial problems were corrected, and the design was simplified to optimize production. At the same time, the aircraft received a more powerful M-82FN engine, which improved its flight characteristics. As a result, when production resumed in the fall of 1943, a new modification of the Tu-2S bomber (S stands for "standard") went into series production. The aircraft served as a frontline bomber along the more known Pe-2, fighting over the skies of Europe and Asia.
The Tu-2S has been in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.27. This aircraft boasts an impressive bomb load, excellent defensive armament, and effective main armament. These features enable the Tu-2S to shoot down enemy bombers and fighters in flight. Its survivability is significantly increased by self-sealing fuel tanks and crew armor. However, its maximum speed is subpar, meaning enemy interceptors can catch up to the bomber. Additionally, its low climb rate prevents it from quickly gaining altitude.
