In the early 1980s, Hungary, as a member of the Warsaw Pact, received about 12 Strela-10M SAM systems as part of military-technical cooperation to strengthen the air defence of ground forces at the tactical level. Vehicles with hull numbers 811, 812, 821 and 822 entered service with the Szombathely Infantry Regiment. However, after the collapse of the USSR, the Strela-10 began to be withdrawn from service and was completely decommissioned from the Hungarian Armed Forces in 1996.
Introduced in Update "Storm Warning", the Strela-10M is built on the MT-LBU armoured tractor chassis and is designed to eliminate enemy aircraft at short and medium range; it has 8 IR-guided missiles for this purpose. Thanks to excellent flight characteristics, the missile can reliably engage manoeuvring targets, and the presence of a photo-contrast guidance mode allows it to acquire targets from greater distances than when using IR guidance.
