Post-war Japan did not remain unarmed for long. Already after the signing of the peace treaty in San Francisco, the formation of the country's self-defense force began, and outdated American Sherman and Chaffee tanks were to be changed to the more suitable for their conditions and simply more modern machines. What could war-torn Europe offer? Quite a lot actually, there were already Leopard 1 and AMX-30. Good tanks, but the Japanese decided to create a domestic armored vehicle, albeit with an eye on European standards. A prototype was built by 1970 and already in 1975, the first batch of the domestic Type 74 main battle tanks left production. In the following years, the engineers continued multiple upgrades, among which was the G version, today's hero here.
