The combat module of the Pantsir air defense system was designed to be mounted on different types of chassis. The tracked version, intended for ground forces' air defense, was first demonstrated in 2012 but failed to attract interest. Based on combat experience, the modernization of the combat module began in 2016. During this period, the "Pantsir-SM" received increased target detection and engagement ranges, as well as the capability to use the small-sized TKB-1055 missile. One prototype was built for the ground forces on a tracked chassis and was designated the "Pantsir-SM-SV". Since 2024, the air defense system has undergone trials with troops.
The Pantsir-SM-SV was introduced in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave". Compared to earlier version, this vehicle has a significantly greater effective range against air targets thanks to new missiles and better mobility due to its tracked chassis. It can mount four small-caliber TKB-1055 missiles instead of a single 95Ya6M, enabling it to intercept airborne weapons without running out of ammunition. However, the Pantsir-SM-SV requires to keep the target in sight to engage, and it cannot engage two targets located on opposite sides. This makes it vulnerable to such attacks.
