The M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle was a military engineering vehicle based on the hull of the M60 tank. Although the M728 originated in the 1960s, its genesis can be traced back to 1944 with the T39 Demolition Tank prototype based on the hull of the M26 Pershing. This was followed by the T118 project in 1960, using the hull of the cancelled T95 medium tank as a test bed, and the vehicle based on the hull of the M60 was accepted for service in 1965 as the M728. The M728 saw service during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, as well as being briefly used by the FBI during the Waco siege in 1993. In total, 328 vehicles were produced, and they were in active service until 2000 and retired in 2018 when they were replaced by the M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle.
The M728 CEV was introduced in Update 2.23 "Apex Predators". The M728 is functionally similar to the British Centurion AVRE, and is even armed with the same 165 mm demolition gun. Being based on the M60, the M728 features decently strong protection against most late-WWII or Korean War-era vehicles, though it is mediocre against chemical rounds. The M728 performs better in urban environments, as the very low muzzle velocity of the gun can cause issues on very large and open maps.
