The Stormer Air Defense System was a British prototype of a short-range anti-aircraft missile and gun system. Following the success of the Stormer HVM, Alvis began searching for solutions to equip its CVR(T) platform with various weapons. One proposal was to install a General Electric Modular Weapon System (also known as the Blazer) combat module that could be equipped with a 25- or 30-millimeter automatic cannon, two Stinger air defense missile launchers, and a search radar. The vehicle was first presented in the UK at the BAe Systems exhibition in 1984. However, like many other Alvis concepts, the Stormer AD did not attract much interest, either domestically or for export. The fate of the prototype is unknown.
The Stormer AD was introduced in Update 2.39 "Dance of Dragons". It is a classic anti-aircraft vehicle with missile and cannon armaments that can effectively protect allied armor from enemy aircraft and helicopter attacks. In terms of anti-aircraft capabilities, the Stormer AD is similar to the LAV-AD. Both vehicles are equipped with the same cannon system paired with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, but the Stormer AD has a smaller ammunition load. The Stormer is also equipped with a search radar that helps with target detection. Its chassis and small size provide excellent mobility on any surface, but this comes at the cost of weak armor that can only withstand machine gun fire.
