Deliveries of the Strela-10M SAM system began during the Soviet era, in the 1980s, as part of military-technical cooperation between the USSR and India. These complexes were intended to strengthen the air defence of ground troops at the tactical level. The transfer of the SAM system was prompted by the unstable situation on the borders with Pakistan and China. A total of approximately 250 units were delivered, most of which are still in service today.
Introduced in Update “Storm Warning”, the Strela-10M is built on the MT-LBU armoured tractor chassis and is designed to eliminate enemy aircraft at short and medium range; it has eight IR-guided missiles for this purpose. Thanks to excellent flight characteristics, the missile can reliably engage manoeuvring targets, and the presence of a photo-contrast guidance mode allows it to acquire targets from greater distances than when using IR guidance.
