The Su-30SM2 is a significant modernization of the Su-30SM multirole fighter, developed by the Sukhoi Corporation for the Russian Aerospace Forces. The aircraft combines the twin-seat Su-30 platform with 4++ generation technologies of Su-35S as a transitional solution. The main differences are the installation of the new "Irbis" radar from the Su-35S, which provides very long detection ranges and the ability to track multiple targets simultaneously, and the installation of more powerful, fuel-efficient AL-41F-1S engines with an all-aspect thrust-vectoring system. The Su-30SM2 was unveiled in 2020, and deliveries to operational units, particularly Naval Aviation, began in 2021–2022. It is gradually replacing the existing Su-30SM fleet.

The Su-30SM2 was introduced in Update 2.53 "Line of Contact". The aircraft inherits all the strengths of the Su-30SM — excellent maneuverability thanks to thrust vectoring, good speed, a large missile loadout, and an impressive array of air-to-air and air-to-surface guided weapons. Its main advantage is the new radar with wide coverage angles. Drawbacks include its size and weight, because of which it looses speed and energy faster than lighter Western fighters.
