The SB 2M-103 MV-3 is a modified version of the Soviet high-speed bomber SB 2M-103, which was designed by Andrei Tupolev. Experience from the Spanish Civil War and the Second Sino-Japanese War showed that SB 2M bombers were vulnerable to enemy fighters approaching from behind. For this reason, the rear turret was significantly modified: the fixed firing point was replaced with a spherical MV-3 turret with a much larger firing sector. The first bombers with the updated turrets were tested in 1937; however, until 1940, the new turrets had only been installed on a few bombers.
The SB 2M-103 MV-3 was introduced before the beginning of the open beta. This aircraft is best used for bombing. Despite its low rate of climb and poor maneuverability, it is capable of reaching speeds higher than those of pre-war aircraft. It has three ShKAS machine gun turrets that reliably protect the bomber.
