General information

The SB2C-4 was the most produced variant of the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver dive bomber. First produced in late 1944, the SB2C-4 was a follow-up design to the SB2C-3 with an upgraded Wright R-2600-20 Cyclone engine. The SB2C-4's main improvement was the addition of wing racks for additional payload or the option to use rockets or gun pods. In total, 2,045 SB2C-4s were built before production switched to the final main variant, the SB2C-5, in 1945.

The SB2C-4 was introduced in Update 1.53 "Firestorm". Compared to its predecessor, the SB2C-1C, this variant of the Helldiver is a direct improvement, offering primarily better acceleration and a more flexible loadout. The wing racks allow the SB2C-4 to carry an additional pair of bombs, a set of HVAR rockets, or even gun pods to strafe soft ground targets or shoot down enemy aircraft. However, the SB2C-4 is still quite sluggish to handle, and its weak defensive guns will not help to deter pursuing enemies.
