The Héja I (Héja is Hungarian for "Hawk") was a Hungarian fighter aircraft based on the Italian Reggiane Re.2000. In 1939, Hungary signed a contract with Italy for a batch of Reggiane Re.2000s and acquired a license to manufacture them. The imported aircraft were modernized with the addition of 8-mm armor plate, one more fuel tank, and several other minor modifications. They were then designated the Héja I. The Héja I was actively used by Hungary during World War II. At least one squadron took part in combat on the Eastern Front against the Soviet Union. However, the Héja I gradually became obsolete and was replaced by the more advanced German Bf 109.
The Héja I was introduced to the game in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave", as part of the Italian aviation research tree. The 8-mm armor plate, which weighs nearly 150 kg, adds weight to the aircraft, but it significantly increases survivability. The pilot is protected from all rifle-caliber bullets, as well as some heavy machine guns, from the rear. Otherwise, it's the same Re.2000—a decent early fighter with a good top speed and a pair of Breda-SAFAT heavy machine guns but a mediocre climb rate. Unlike the Re.2000, this aircraft has a weaker engine.
