The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine, multi-role aircraft from the early 1940s. By 1944, the Royal Navy wanted a twin-engine aircraft that could operate from aircraft carriers. This request was outlined in Admiralty Specification No. 15/44, to which de Havilland responded with the Sea Mosquito. The first prototype of this modification was the Mosquito FB Mk. VI, which was modified to include a tail hook, a four-bladed propeller, a reinforced fuselage, and a slightly more powerful engine. Its carrier trials began in spring 1944 on the aircraft carrier HMS Indefatigable, with the first landing occurring on March 25.
The new version, the Mosquito TR.Mk.33, did not make it to the war. Its production began in late 1945 in Leavesden. Additionally, despite the Navy's requirement for foldable wings, the first 13 aircraft had fixed wings. Starting with the 14th aircraft, the planes received new Lockheed landing gear with slightly smaller wheels. Other differences included the installation of an AI Mk XV ASH radar and the ability to carry torpedoes. The first production aircraft was ready on November 10, 1945. Delivery to combat units began in August 1946. The 50 Mosquito TR.Mk.33s that were built served uneventfully until January 1952.
The Mosquito TR.Mk.33 was introduced in Update 2.49 "Tusk Force". It is very similar to the Norwegian Mosquito FB Mk. VI ASH, differing only in its greater weight and ability to carry torpedoes. Otherwise, it is the same Mosquito: a fast, multi-role aircraft with excellent fixed and drop weapons. However, it has poor survivability and would lose in a dogfight against a single-engined fighter.
