Marne was the lead ship of her class of French avisoés, launched in 1916 and commissioned in 1917. Originally named after the Marne River, she was later referred to as La Marne in honour of the decisive Great War battle. Initially assigned to service in the Baltic Sea, based off Copenhagen, she was later refitted and, in 1925, transferred to the Far East. During World War II, she served under Vichy France, most notably taking part in the Battle of Ko Chang in January 1941, where she engaged Thai targets at point-blank range despite being an outdated vessel at the time. After the battle, she resumed escorting convoys in Indochina. In March 1945, she was scuttled in the Cần Thơ to prevent capture by Japanese forces but was later refloated. Her final fate remains uncertain, with records suggesting she was either scrapped or otherwise destroyed in 1957.
Marne was introduced in Update "Hornet's Sting". She is a large, deadly sub-chaser, known for her powerful three-gun broadside which can fire every five seconds, which allows her to effectively counter small coastal vessels and can even pose a threat to destroyers. However, where she struggles the most is in confrontations with torpedoes and bombers. Her primary guns have an unusually low muzzle velocity, which makes long-range gunfights particularly challenging, but it also allows her to engage enemies behind hard cover with plunging fire. When equipped with seakeeping modifications, she becomes an exceptionally dangerous vessel that should be approached with caution, unless you are with a group of friendly torpedo boats or in an aeroplane, as she lacks weapons to effectively respond to any aerial attack.
