General information

The F-15I Ra'am (Hebrew: רעם – “Thunder”) is an Israeli variant of the McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle. Specifically designed for the Israeli Air Force (IAF)’s requirements, the F-15I replaces many of the standard F-15E avionics with Israeli-designed systems which include the replacement of the standard AN/APG-70 radar with the new AN/APG-70I. The F-15I successfully completed its first test flight in September 1997 and officially entered service with the IAF in November. Currently, Israel’s F-15Is are operated by the IAF’s No. 69 “Hammers” Squadron as the replacement for the older F-4E “Kurnass” Phantom II.

The F-15I Ra’am was introduced in Update “Firebirds” alongside the American F-15E. With two Pratt and Whitney F100-PW-229 engines, the F-15I is blazingly fast and can outrun every other plane in the game except for other F-15E/Is, reaching speeds of Mach 2.0 and over at altitude. It can fulfil its intended duty as a CAS aircraft in ground battles and can carry many guided bombs, air-to-ground missiles, and GNSS bombs simultaneously to annihilate ground targets. The F-15I also excels at medium-to-long range air combat thanks to its exceptionally high top speed and can utilise its AIM-120B AMRAAM radar missiles to great effect. However, the F-15I is heavier and less manoeuvrable than the F-15A/C variants and other top-rank jets like the Rafale and Eurofighter, so launching the AMRAAMs from a distance and only engaging more manoeuvrable opponents when the F-15I has the advantage is key to success.
