The Eurofighter Tranche 4 upgrade includes the addition of Hensoldt’s updated CAPTOR-E Mk 1 AESA radar and other updates to armament systems. Thirty single-seater and eight twin-seater Tranche 4 Eurofighters were ordered by the German Air Force in 2020 as part of the “Quadriga” modernisation programme, with the first deliveries expected to occur in 2025.

Introduced in Update 2.53 “Line of Contact”, the EF-2000 (AESA) is very similar to the preceding EF-2000, but is equipped with the upgraded CAPTOR-E radar, the PIRATE FLIR/IRST system, and an enhanced suite of air-to-ground ordnance. While lacking the full 100-degree gimbal limit of its British and Italian counterparts, the new CAPTOR-E is a significant upgrade over the older mechanical CAPTOR-M radar and is more consistent at detecting and tracking targets in TWS and other radar modes. The new PIRATE IRST system also gives players the ability to locate and track aircraft without alerting radar warning receivers. Regarding air combat, the EF-2000 (AESA) retains the same AIM-120B/C5 and AIM-9M missiles. Additionally, the Israeli fire-and-forget SPICE 250 guided bombs are now available for use alongside the existing Brimstone missiles and Paveway bombs, increasing the lethality of the aircraft against ground targets.
