The AD-4NA was a subvariant of the AD-4N night attack aircraft, itself a variant of the AD-4 Skyraider attacker. The AD-4N's main difference from the AD-4 was an additional station for a radar operator and bombardier located towards the aft of the fuselage. Due to the urgent need for ground attack aircraft during the Korean War, 100 out of 307 AD-4Ns were converted into the AD-4NA, removing the night attack equipment and adding the four 20 mm autocannons back, effectively converting it to the base AD-4 specifications.
In 1956, France purchased five AD-4NA as part of the AD-4 batch ordered to replace the ageing P-47 Thunderbolt. The French AD-4NA saw service during the Algerian War as well as the Chadian–Libyan border conflict before it was retired in the 1970s.
The French AD-4NA was introduced in Update 2.11 "Ground Breaking". Aside from visual differences, it is identical to the American AD-4 in terms of performance. The AD-4NA is an extremely effective ground striker. It can utilise many different types of bombs and rockets, and the four 20 mm autocannons perform very well against both ground and air targets. However, this all comes at the cost of flight performance. Although the AD-4NA has a powerful engine, it has abysmal manoeuvring energy retention and is overall a heavy aircraft. The Skyraider can turn tightly for a few turns, but quickly becomes slow and vulnerable to enemy fighters.
