Description

The Motoconvertibili Freccia-class was a group of 2 convertible gunboats derived from the MC Lampo-class built for the Marina Militare Italiana during the Cold War.

History

The MC Freccia-class is a class of 2 ships that have a convertible armament configuration:

Gun boat configuration:

Torpedo boat configuration:

  • armament composed by two 40 mm/70 Breda-Bofors type 107 auto cannons and two torpedo launchers
  • armament composed by one 40 mm/70 Breda-Bofors type 107 auto cannon and four Torpedoes launchers

Mine Layer configuration:

  • armament composed by one 40 mm/70 Breda-Bofors type 107 auto cannon and mines

Anti-submarine lookout configuration:

  • armament composed by two 40 mm/70 Breda-Bofors type 107 auto cannons and two hopper for Depth charges

Built in the 1960s were the evolution of the earlier Lampo class. They were built between 1963 and 1966 in two out of the planned four units. The other two units, Dardo and Strale.
