Description

The M36 tank destroyer, officially designated 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage, M36, was the last dedicated American tank destroyer of World War II.

The nickname Jackson for the M36 was given in September 1944 by Ordnance Department and was known by the soldiers in reference to the Confederate general of the Civil War Stonewall Jackson. However, the nickname wasn't official and doesn't see any use in official documents. The nickname was only known to the public in the '70s, and soon became synonymous with the vehicle.
