The Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4, also known as the "Friedrich", was a German light fighter-attack aircraft that saw widespread use on various fronts during World War II by the Axis powers. This version of the Messerschmitt was mostly supplied to the Romanian military and produced under license in Hungary. However, one of the Hungarian Bf 109 F-4s was flown by Dezső Szentgyörgyi, the country's most successful ace. It featured a distinct winter livery, as well as absence of protective shields on the landing gear. Since clearing the runway was rarely possible when operating from winter airfields, many ground crews simply removed elements under which snow could accumulate. Thus, the landing gear strut guards, radiator grille, and rear wheel covers were often removed. This slightly affected the aircraft's stability during takeoff or at low altitudes, but it was an effective solution overall.
The Hungarian Bf 109 F-4 was introduced as one of the rewards for the Battle Pass Season X, "Royal Guard" as a part of the Italian aviation research tree. It features excellent flight characteristics, fairly powerful and accurate course weapons and a modest but effective arsenal of suspended armament. The only drawbacks of the Friedrich are the rather weak survivability of the engine and a barely noticeable drop in maximum speed due to aerodynamic differences compared to the German Bf 109 F-4.
