Alexander Pokryshkin's unit was gifted five La-7 fighter aircraft with the inscription on the left sides stating "For Alexander Pokryshkin from workers of Novosibirsk." While testing the aircraft, Pokryshkin's friend, Captain Klubov was fatally injured during landing when his aircraft flipped over, crushing him. Pokryshkin rejected these fighters and continued to use [[P-39 (Family)|P-39 fighters.
