Description
The Aérospatiale Gazelle (SA 340, SA 341 and SA 342) is a family of light utility helicopters developed by Sud Aviation, later Aérospatiale, in collaboration with Westland Helicopters. They were introduced in 1973 and have been used for various roles, such as reconnaissance, liaison, anti-tank, anti-aircraft and light attack. They are powered by a single Turbomeca Astazou turbine engine and have a distinctive fenestron tail instead of a conventional tail rotor. They can carry up to five people and have a maximum speed of 310 km/h and a range of 670 km. They have been exported to many countries and have seen action in several conflicts, such as the Gulf War, the Rwandan Civil War, and the Lebanon War.
