KW II 754 (r) was the German designation for captured Soviet KV-2s. The tank was developed by the design bureau of the Kirov Works (LKZ) in Leningrad and adopted by the Soviet Army in 1940. A total of 204 tanks were mass-produced between 1940 and 1941. The KV-2 saw active service from the beginning of the German–Soviet War in 1941 until 1945.
A small number of tanks, abandoned during the retreat or destroyed in combat, fell into German hands and were partially repaired and reused by the Wehrmacht. The captured tanks were also slightly modified to meet Wehrmacht requirements, including the installation of a new commander’s cupola, which was typically fitted to the Pz. III and Pz. IV. The tank was deployed in the northern sector of the Eastern Front, where it shelled Soviet positions in the besieged city of Leningrad. The exact number of KW II 754(r) tanks deployed by the Germans cannot be determined; most were KV-1 tanks like the KW I C 756(r), while the number of captured KV-2s was at most 10–15. A few captured KV-2s even survived until the end of the war; for example, the Americans captured a German KV-2 during the capture of Essen, which the Germans had used to defend the city.
The KW II 754(r) was introduced in Update 1.59 "Flaming Arrows". It is almost identical to the KV-2 (1940) in the Soviet tech tree, except for the new commander’s cupola from the Panzer III or Panzer IV. The tank boasts enormous firepower, good armour protection, and decent manoeuvrability. However, it has a very long reload time, a low turret rotation speed, and a very tall silhouette.
