A completely revamped game encyclopaedia.
We are pleased to announce a major update to the War Thunder Wiki! We have listened to all your feedback and suggestions and tried to make the new version of the Wiki as useful, as convenient, and as interesting as possible for both our readers and authors. Take a look for yourself!
New cards
First of all, of course, we have updated the vehicle cards to make them even more informative, taking into account the latest innovations in the game: a brief historical and gameplay description of the vehicle, basic and reference characteristics, lists of available weapons and ammunition, blocks describing the workings of the vehicles' mechanics, and much more.
There are also other useful features: lists of available camouflages, thematic collections of vehicles, the ability to rate vehicles according to certain parameters, a feed of relevant articles, and a comparison of vehicles.
Vehicle comparison
Yes, you no longer need to search and compare the parameters of individual vehicles. Just add the vehicle you are interested in to the comparison and the wiki itself will show you which vehicle is better in which way. You can also easily share your selection by creating a unique link for it.
Trees and filters
The vehicle search has also been completely updated. There are a lot of filters available, including searching by BR ranges, thematic collections, features, and much more. The search results are displayed in two ways: as a game tree, as before, and as a list.
Now it's easier than ever to see which opponents a particular vehicle can face by searching by BR bracket, or to find out how many Sherman-based vehicles are in the game.
Articles and editor
As you can see, the format of the articles has also changed. Now all our entries are no longer dry, static wiki pages following a format, but creative, personalized articles on specific topics up to the author's preference.
There are now comments, the ability to rate articles, links to related vehicles, and most importantly – each article now has an author who wrote it. The work of the authors is no longer left nameless.
The visual editor has also been updated. Now writing articles has become easy - no more complicated markup in wiki format, just choose from a list of prepared content blocks and fill them in using a convenient interface.
Author profile
Writers also have their own profile, which is synchronised with the game and contains all their work. Improve your writing skills, earn ratings and new subscribers, and share your in-game and wiki stats with all your readers. The Wiki Team will also reward contributors with Golden Eagles every month.
Quality of life
And that's not all. We also have a dark theme, full mobile support, and a host of other useful innovations that you can see for yourself!
We would love to hear your feedback on the update and your suggestions for improving the Wiki. Write them in the comments below this post or in the forum, we will definitely read them all!
We would also like to extend a special thanks to our volunteers who have been involved in preparing the new version of the wiki for release: Inceptor57, 島風 (Shimakaze), DnaGonite, X_pazzo1972_X, Caff_, a team of CIS-volunteers, as well as dozens of other authors involved in writing interesting, useful, and unique articles for the War Thunder Wiki. Thank you for being with us!
Retrospective
This is not the first War Thunder wiki update in the project's history. War Thunder is constantly evolving, and to keep up, we change regularly.
The last version, which we call Wiki 2.5, was the main version to date.
It was released in 2020 as a minor update to version 2.0. The main changes were a slightly improved design and a new format for the vehicle cards: instead of one long block on the right-hand side, they were divided into several separate thematic blocks, allowing a large amount of information about the vehicle to be displayed more clearly.
Version 2.0 appeared in 2018. It looked similar to version 2.5, but was a little more cluttered. Its main innovations were a new design and automatically generated vehicle cards (previously they were filled in manually by the wiki team).
However, 1.0 was probably not seen by everyone. It was a fairly basic version of the encyclopaedia, almost completely replicating the look of Wikipedia at the time (as both sites were built on the MediaWiki engine). It appeared in 2014.
But that's not all. Not everyone knows about it, but there was another version that only true War Thunder veterans have seen - Wiki 0.5. The very first version of the encyclopaedia, released in 2013.
Tell us in the comments which version of War Thunder Wiki you saw!
Q&A
— Q: What will happen to the old version of the Wiki?
A: It will remain available at this link for some time. However, it may be deactivated at a later date.
— Q: My article has been migrated, but I am not credited as the author.
A: Please let us know in the comments below this article or in the forum and we will make sure that you are credited as the author of the article.
— Q: My article was not migrated.
A: Unfortunately, we didn't have time to migrate all the content from the old version of the wiki, and some content was considered outdated and was not migrated on purpose. However, you can migrate your articles yourself. Just remember that you still need to make sure that your article is up to date and meets current wiki standards.
— Q: Can I get a reward for writing articles?
A: Alongside the numerous other changes in Wiki 3.0, we will be expanding our rewards programme (previously known as the "Wiki Share Program") so that everyone who contributes is rewarded! Write your text, we'll review it, and you'll get your reward after it's published. You can read detailed rules about the Author Support Programme at this link.
— Q: Will we still be able to preview unreleased vehicles in the game from the wiki?
A: Nope :)
We hope you will enjoy the update! And there's more!
To celebrate the Wiki 3.0 release, we've put together a pack with a special decal and title. Don't miss out – grab yours today!
