The 9K330 "Tor" is a Soviet short-range surface-to-air missile system. Development began in 1975 and took more than ten years. The Tor was accepted into service with the Soviet army on March 19, 1986. At the time, it was one of the world's most advanced air defense systems. However, almost immediately after its introduction, NPO "Antey" began further development work.
The system received a second target channel, the destructive power of the missile warhead increased, and the algorithms for engaging low-flying targets improved during the upgrades. The upgraded variant, the 9K331 "Tor-M1", successfully completed trials in 1989 and was adopted by the Russian army in 1991. Today, the Tor-M1 remains in service with the Russian Armed Forces and is exported abroad.
The Tor-M1 was introduced in Update 2.53 "Line of Contact". A key advantage of this surface-to-air system is its ability to fire at two targets simultaneously. However, the Tor's armament consists only of vertically launched missiles, preventing it from engaging ground armored vehicles at close range.
