The Shcherbakov was a light cruiser of Project 68-bis-ZIF, a variant of Project 68-bis aimed at strengthening air defense. This was accomplished by replacing some of the 37 mm automatic guns with quadruple 45 mm SM-20-ZIF guns. The Shcherbakov was to be equipped under this program. The ship was laid down in June 1951 at SS3 No. 194 (A. Marti Plant, Leningrad) and was comissioned in the Navy on August 31, 1951. On March 17, 1954, the Shcherbakov was launched. However, on September 2, 1959, the light cruiser was removed from construction plans, leaving it at around 80.6% technical readiness. Consequently, it was decommissioned.
The Shcherbakov was introduced as one of the rewards for the 2023 Repair Factory event. This cruiser offers commanders a successful combination of powerful, rapid-fire main-caliber guns; formidable air defense; and good maneuverability. However, the ship heavily lacks in survivability, making many encounters difficult.
