The BMPT-72 "Terminator-2" was first presented at the 2013 "Russia Arms Expo", as a conversion of the T-72 into Tank support combat vehicles. It had a higher degree of commonality with the base tank, in this case being T-72, than the first version, a crew of three instead of five, and enhanced armor for the ATGM launchers. The modernization aimed to improve vehicle survivability and reduce operational costs. As of 2022, the Algerian Armed Forces have three "Terminator-2" units in service.
The BMPT-72 was introduced in Update 2.53 "Line of Contact". Compared to the standard variant, the "Terminator-2" differs primarily in its use of a T-72 chassis, its three-person crew, and the absence of AGS grenade launchers. However, it has improved frontal armor, high-quality thermal sights for the gunner and commander, and armored covers on the 9M120-1 "Ataka-T" ATGM launchers. Otherwise, the Terminator-2 is similar to the standard version. Drawbacks include a limited number of ATGMs, suboptimal autocannon ammunition, and low reverse speed.
