BMD-4M2 is a Russian airborne infantry fighting vehicle, representing a further development of the concepts implemented in the BMD-4M. The vehicle was first unveiled to the public in 2017 at the Army-2017 forum. The main difference from the base BMD-4M is the use of the turret from the BMP-3, which integrates the 100 mm gun, 30 mm autocannon, and advanced fire-control equipment. This significantly increased the degree of unification between the two vehicles. In the same year, the BMD-4M2 underwent trials, and after their successful completion, it was accepted into service. At present, the vehicle is in active production and service with the Russian Armed Forces.
The BMD-4M2 was introduced in Update 2.49 “Tusk Force”. It combines the hull and powerplant of the BMD-4M with the turret of the BMP-3. Because of this, compared to other BMD-4 variants, this modification features a slower ATGM reload rate. However, thanks to its excellent mobility and amphibious capability, the BMD-4M2 can be among the first to capture key positions on the battlefield and easily outflank opponents. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a commander’s thermal sight, providing improved target detection and engagement capability in all weather and lighting conditions.
