2S1
The 2S1 Gvozdika is a Soviet self-propelled artillery system. Its development began in 1965 at the Kharkov Tractor Plant. The project's main objective was to create a light, mobile self-propelled howitzer capable of effectively destroying enemy personnel, artillery, and fortifications. The MT-LB tracked transporter chassis was chosen as the basis for the new system and modified to mount the 122mm 2A31 howitzer. The first four prototype 2S1 Gvozdika units were built in 1969 and immediately sent for field testing. After some refinements, the 2S1 Gvozdika was officially adopted by the Soviet Army on September 14, 1970. The 2S1 was widely used during the Afghan War and participated in many other armed conflicts, including modern ones. It was also actively exported to various countries.
The 2S1 was introduced in the Update 2.29 "Sons of Attila". It has a distinct playstyle when compared to other vehicles in its rank. It is armed with a 122 mm 2A18 howitzer and fires high explosive (HE) shells at adversaries rather than the more frequent armour-piercing (AP) ammunition used by tanks. However, the large calibre of the main armament means that even if the HE shell fails to penetrate most enemy vehicles that the 2S1 Gvozdika encounters, the sheer explosive strength of the ordnance frequently ensures severe damage, if not outright destruction. Built on a light chassis, the 2S1 Gvozdika boasts exceptional top speed, allowing the player to get into key positions early in the battle. However, players must be aware of the vehicle's slow turret traverse speed and thin armour structure, as missing a shot is typically fatal due to poor survivability and a high reload time.
