In January 1942, the Soviet Navy made a decision to increase the firepower of several small ships in series production, including the Project 1124 armored boats. The plan was to equip the boats with BM-8 or BM-13 multiple rocket launchers, modified to increase the horizontal rotation angles. By May 1942, MLRS installations had begun on some Volga flotilla armored boats, though the exact number modernized in this way is unknown.
The Project 1124 MLRS was introduced in Update 1.79 "Project X". Compared to the researchable version, the armored boat differs in that it has an MLRS; otherwise, it is similar: it has powerful armor and significant main-caliber artillery armament but extremely low speed. The rocket system deals serious damage but is difficult to aim.
