As German torpedo and gunboats became more heavily armed, the British Admiralty sought to develop its own torpedo boat equipped with a gunboat's armament. In 1942, Vosper developed an elongated version of their 70-foot boat featuring more powerful Packard engines, two additional torpedoes, and the capacity to mount additional armaments. The vessel was now 73 feet long. The first boat in the series of sixteen units was the MTB-379. It was ordered on November 7, 1942; built at the Vosper shipyard in Portchester; and commissioned on January 22, 1944. Its service was uneventful, and it was sold on September 17, 1947.
The MTB-379 was introduced in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave". As the designers intended, the new boat is slightly larger and boasts two Oerlikons and four torpedoes. Thanks to this, the boat can take on both similar small vessels and heavy subchasers. However, it is still made of wood, and its crew is small.
