The Stridsfordon 9040, also called the Combat Vehicle 9040, is a Swedish infantry fighting vehicle. Hägglunds began developing it in 1983 in collaboration with Bofors at the request of the Swedish Army. The first prototypes were ready by 1986. During development, the Strf 90 was tested with both a 25-millimeter cannon (Strf 9025) and a 40-millimeter cannon (Strf 9040). After extensive testing, the military selected the 40 mm Bofors gun, and the Strf 9040 entered serial production in 1993. Over 1,200 vehicles were built in various variants, most of which were exported to other countries. Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish CV 9040s were used in combat operations in Liberia and Afghanistan.
Further improvements led to the development of the Strf 9040B by 1999. This variant received a fully stabilized cannon, updated fire control software, improved suspension, and other upgrades that enhanced combat performance and crew comfort.
The Strf 9040B was introduced in Update 2.11 "Ground Breaking". In battle, it boasts a high-rate-of-fire autocannon, good mobility, a thermal sight, and a laser rangefinder with automatic distance calculation. However, its light armor prevents it from playing aggressively on the battlefield.
