The Supermarine Seafire F Mk XVII was a British carrier-based fighter aircraft used during World War II. It was designed for service with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm. By the end of 1944, the Seafire family had undergone numerous modifications and improvements. The Seafire Mk. XV followed directly after the Mk III and was designated to standardize the Spitfire and Seafire naming system. The XV featured a new Griffon-VI engine, retractable tail wheel, strengthened airframe with fuel tanks in the wings, and a new elevator as well as engine cowling. It was followed by the XVII variant featuring even more reinforced wings and a reinforced landing gear and a new fuel tank in the fuselage. 232 Seafire F Mk XVIIs were built.
The Seafire F Mk XVII was introduced in Update 1.49 "Weapons of Victory". This variant retains the advantages of the Seafire LF Mk III while receiving a powerful Griffon engine that significantly improves its speed and overall flight performance. Additionally, the aircraft can carry bombs, making it a versatile platform capable of air superiority and ground attack missions. However its 7.7 mm Brownings are weak, and it suffers from a bigger weight compared to the normal Spitfires.
