The Swedish JAS39E, or Gripen E, is a single-seat fighter aircraft and a modernisation of the preceding Gripen C produced by SAAB. While the Gripen E is slightly larger and heavier than the Gripen C, it incorporates a plethora of new features, including the addition of an ES-05 AESA radar set, a more powerful General Electric F414 engine, IRST search capabilities, two additional hardpoints, and a wide-area cockpit display, while also having around 2,000 more kilograms of payload capacity than the Gripen C. Sweden placed an order for 60 Gripen E aircraft in 2013, and the first production aircraft was delivered in October 2025 to the F7 Skaraborg Wing of the Swedish Air Force. All 60 aircraft are estimated to be in service by 2030. Brazil is the only other operator of the Gripen E and signed a contract for 36 Gripen E and Gripen F (twin-seater) models in 2014. The first Gripen Es were delivered to Brazil in the early 2020s and are designated locally as the F-39E/F-39F.

Introduced in Update “Line of Contact”, the JAS39E “Gripen E” offers multiple advantages over the previous JAS39C in terms of armaments and avionics. For air-to-air combat, the Gripen E can carry up to seven RB 99 and two RB 74(M) missiles. The new ES-05 AESA radar set is more consistent at detecting and tracking targets than the mechanical PS-05 on the JAS39C due to its rapid scan and refresh rate. Additionally, the more powerful General Electric F414-GE-39E turbojet engine helps to offset the heavier weight and larger wingspan of the JAS39E. In terms of ground armaments, pilots will be pleased to discover that they can carry a total of 16 SPICE 250 fire-and-forget glide bombs in addition to British Brimstone air-to-ground missiles.
