The JAS39C Gripen is the primary fighter of the Royal Thai Air Force. In 2008, the Royal Thai Air Force signed a deal with Saab for six, and in 2010 for six more JAS39 fighters in both their single-seat and dual-seat configurations, in order to replace the ageing F-5 fleet. The first airframes were delivered in February 2011 and, by September 2013, all 12 airframes had arrived in Thailand. By the end of 2014, the Gripen had officially become a part of Thailand's Integrated Air Defence System, playing a major role in the air defence of the country.
The Thai JAS39C was introduced in Update "Storm Warning" along with the Thai air tree. It features good flight performance, a very versatile weapon loadout, and a modern self-defence suite, making it one of the most well-rounded aircraft for its rank. Having access to AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles as well as AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, although in a rather limited quantity, with BOL pods available, the Gripen is able to keep up with its contemporaries in both short- and long-range engagements. Additionally, having access to four AGM-65 missiles and a targeting pod with a thermal imager and good zoom, it is also one of the best options for CAS in the Japanese tech tree.
