General information

The Dassault M.D. 450 Ouragan is a French jet fighter, that was later sold to the Israeli Air Force. The first jet aircraft in service with Israel was the British Gloster Meteor. However, the Israelis were constantly looking for opportunities to expand their fleet. When there were delays in delivering the French Mystere IV fighter, Dassault management offered a batch of Ouragan aircraft. The first 12 arrived at Hazor Air Base on October 6, 1955. They replenished the fleet of the newly formed 113th Squadron. Because of the growing tension between Israel and Arab countries, the Ouragan fleet was constantly replenished. Eventually, the Israeli Air Force had a total of 75 M.D.450Bs. Ouragans participated in numerous Arab-Israeli conflicts, including the Suez Crisis of 1956 and the Six-Day War of 1967. The aircraft were primarily used for ground attacks, but Ouragan pilots still achieved several air combat victories, including against Egyptian MiG-21s.

During the Suez Crisis, one of the Ouragan aircraft was the M.D.450B "29" of the 113th Squadron, which was piloted by Captain Jaacon Agasi. On October 31, 1956, the aircraft participated in the attack on the Egyptian destroyer Mohammed Ali el-Kebir, leading to the ship's subsequent surrender to Israel.

The Israeli M.D.450B (29) was introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead". Similar to most early post-war aircraft, such as the F-80, Meteor, and Su-11, this fighter has good maneuverability and tightly packed nose armament, but it has low acceleration dynamics and a relatively low maximum speed. Additionally, the Ouragan's small payload allows it to be used in joint combat as a light attack aircraft. Its unique camouflage distinguishes it from the standard israeli M.D.450B Ouragan.
