The JDS Kari (PC-301) is a submarine chaser and the lead ship of its four-boat class. Laid down on January 18, 1956, at the Fujinagata shipyard, it was launched on September 26 and entered service on February 8, 1957.
As their classification suggests, boats of this type were designed to protect coastal waters from submarines. Despite the rapid development of technology and the emergence of more powerful, autonomous submarines and more advanced, effective anti-submarine warfare methods, a small series of submarine chasers was nevertheless built to protect harbors, bays, and other small bodies of water from submarine attacks. Four boats of this type formed the 1st Squadron of Anti-Submarine Ships, which remained virtually unchanged until 1977. Due to the boats' obsolescence, the squadron was disbanded, and all ships of this type were decommissioned and scrapped.
The Kari was introduced in Update 2.51 "Spearhead". It is armed with decent 40mm Bofors L/60 guns and a good set of anti-submarine weapons that are not particularly useful at the moment. The Kari's survivability is average because it lacks any protection and has a mediocre crew size.
