The Type K-8 No.13 class of Japanese submarine chasers was developed as part of the Fourth Fleet Construction Program and was built between 1940 and 1942. A key feature of the K-8 class was that they were constructed using cheaper, more common steel typically found in transport and civilian ships. The Japanese chose this approach because they wanted to quickly and cheaply build effective anti-submarine vessels. A total of 15 ships of this subseries were built.
The Type K-8 No.13 was introduced as one of the rewards for the 2020 Operation W.I.N.T.E.R. event. The ship has decent survivability and effective artillery, but its speed and maneuverability are low.
