The JDS Murasame (DD-107) is a post-war Japanese destroyer of the namesake class. The Murasame-class destroyers were developed as an improvement on the Ayanami class, with a primary focus on combating enemy submarines. The Murasame class, however, featured significantly enhanced air defense capabilities thanks to the installation of three 5-inch guns and a more advanced AN/SPS-6 radar. Later, one of the guns was removed from the ships.
JDS Murasame was laid down on December 17, 1957, in Kobe; launched on July 31, 1958; and commissioned on February 28, 1959. Until March 30, 1984, the destroyer served as an escort ship. After that, it was renamed ASU-7006 and transferred to the Development Guidance Group. In 1987, various minesweeper equipment was tested on the ship. On March 23, 1988, the ship was decommissioned.
The JDS Murasame (DD-107) was introduced in Update 2.41 "Firebirds". It differs from the JDS Harukaze (DD-101) with its new turrets, enhanced secondary armament, and six 324 mm torpedoes. The ships are similar overall: the Murasame boasts versatile main caliber guns, decent air defense, and a search radar. One of its shortcomings is its relatively low speed compared to most of its peers.
