The Hungarian army entered the 2010s with large numbers of outdated Soviet-origin equipment. As with the Leopard 2A4 and Leopard 2A7H tanks and KF41 IFV, a replacement for towed D-20 howitzers was decided to be of German design.
On 19 December 2018, the Hungarian Defense Forces signed a contract with the German company KMW for the purchase of 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers for its artillery battalion. On 5 August 2022, the first PzH 2000 arrived in Hungary, and on 7 September 2022, the first live firing of three delivered PzH 2000 howitzers took place. All howitzers are destined for the 101st Tata Artillery Division and will provide fire support for the 1st György Klapka Armored Brigade. They will be supported by "Gidrán" combat vehicles for reconnaissance and targeting.
Introduced in Update "Storm Warning", the Hungarian PzH 2000 has a high rate of fire for a 155 mm gun, excellent ballistics, a laser rangefinder, and automatic loading. These features make it highly effective at medium and long ranges, while its mobile chassis allows it to reach required positions quickly. The vehicle's drawbacks include its relatively low level of protection, large size, and slow horizontal aiming.
