The TAM 2IP (Tanque Argentino Mediano 2IP) is an upgraded version of the Argentine TAM medium tank. The Argentine military's desire to maintain the existing TAM medium tanks has led to ongoing efforts to enhance their capabilities. This is not the first modernization attempt; a previous effort called the TAM 2C failed for several reasons, including high costs. The TAM 2IP project involved several subcontractors. The main contractor was the Israeli company Elbit Systems, and certain components were supplied by Israel Military Industries (IMI) and Tadiran. The modernization primarily focused on improving firepower, increasing protection, enhancing engine management, and making other minor improvements aimed at enhancing the overall tank. As TAM 2C-A2 seemingly takes priority for the future upgrades of the tank, TAM 2IP remains a prototype.
The TAM 2IP was introduced in Update 2.7 "Red Skies". Compared to the standard TAM, the tank received upgraded armor in the form of additional appliqué plates, a redesigned turret, and an improved DM33 round. However, the turret is still located in the back, meaning the engine will often be revealed first, making the tank extra vulnerable in uneven terrain and city combat.
