The development of the HS.30 armored personnel carrier began at Hispano-Suiza in 1956. The goal was to create a vehicle that could transport troops to the battlefield and support them with its weapons. By 1959, the German Armed Forces had adopted the new vehicle, which had a 20 mm cannon as its main armament. However, once it entered service, numerous design problems quickly became apparent. The engine was too weak, the transmission and running gear were unreliable, and the only way to exit the vehicle was through the top, which endangered the troops. These issues, coupled with a political scandal in the 1960s, resulted in the production of only 2,176 vehicles instead of the planned 10,680. They remained in service for just over ten years and were replaced by the Marder armored personnel carrier in 1971.
In the first half of the 1960s, however, German companies developed several unusual designs for the HS.30's use in various new roles, realizing that it would soon be replaced by a new vehicle. One such development was the Zwillings-Raketenautomat Oerlikon 8cm, which featured a twin launcher for 81mm Oerlikon rockets. These rockets were designed to combat armored vehicles, infantry, and fortifications. The only prototype of the Raketenautomat was built in 1964; however, the design did not interest the military, and the German army purchased the LARS 1 MLRS instead.
The Raketenautomat was introduced in Update 2.27 "La Royale". It stands out with its powerful, rapid-fire rocket launchers and a small size. However, the vehicle has a limited ammunition capacity, extremely low survivability, and inferior mobility compared to most light vehicles.
