The Sd.Kfz.251/22 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251/22) was a German self-propelled gun based on the widely used Sd.Kfz.251 half-track armoured personnel carrier during World War II. This modification was developed by the company Hanomag (hence its colloquial nicknames “Hanomag” or “PaK-Hanomag”) to increase the firepower of infantry units. The first production vehicles appeared only in December 1944, largely due to overall difficulties in tank manufacturing caused by the rapid Allied advance and the loss of Germany’s main industrial centres. However, early improvised versions of this modification had already begun appearing in 1943, built in field workshops from damaged or obsolete vehicles — and sometimes even from regular troop carriers — to meet urgent battlefield needs.
The Sd.Kfz.251/22 was introduced as a reward for Battle Pass Season IV: “Fearless Voltigeur”. Its main armament is the 75 mm PaK 40/3 L/46 anti-tank gun, which performs exceptionally well for its battle rating and can penetrate nearly any vehicle from most angles. However, like all half-track–based vehicles, the Sd.Kfz.251/22 has notable drawbacks: weak armour protection, an open fighting compartment, and poor manoeuvrability due to its half-track chassis.
