The Boxer SWaTrInf (short for Schwerer Waffenträger Infanterie) is the German version of the Boxer combat vehicle. It is intended to replace the outdated Wiesel airborne tracked vehicle, which is equipped with either a 20mm automatic cannon or BGM-71 TOW ATGMs. As of April 10, 2024, the procurement of these vehicles is being carried out under a contract between Germany and Australia. The Australian Department of Defense is acting as the main contractor, and Rheinmetall Defence Australia (RDA) is acting as the subcontractor. The contract provides for the production of 123 vehicles of this variant. The first batch of 19 vehicles is expected to be delivered by the end of 2025. Starting in 2026, production will increase to 25 vehicles per year at Rheinmetall Defence Australia (RDA) facilities. The final vehicle is scheduled for delivery to the Bundeswehr in January 2030.
The SWaTrInf was introduced in Update 2.55 "Ninth Wave". It is a fast, wheeled IFV armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon. It features ammunition belts suitable for engaging aircraft and several types of armor-piercing rounds. The Boxer is also equipped with Spike-LR II anti-tank guided missiles capable of destroying tanks and helicopters from long distances. Its protection level corresponds to that of light armored vehicles. However, it stands out due to its active protection system, which is installed along the sides of the hull. Its drawbacks include limited ATGM ammunition and large overall dimensions.
