The Artilleriefährprahm Typ D1 (or AF D1 for short) was a variant of the MF Typ A landing craft converted into a makeshift gunboat after the planned invasion of Great Britain was cancelled. Due to the makeshift conversion plans between shipyards, each AF Typ D landing craft was outfitted with different kinds of armaments and armouring, such as different gun layouts and extra concrete coating. The Typ D1 was a standard model of the barge, featuring two dual-purpose 88 mm flak cannons as its main armament. In total, around 700 AF Typ D of all variants were converted, and they were used either as an auxiliary minelayers towed along by destroyers, or used inland as fire support gunboats.
Introduced in Update 1.79 "Project X" in the fleet closed beta test, the AF D1 is a makeshift gunboat converted from a landing craft. As such, it shares certain characteristics with its origin, namely its long and narrow hull and its slow top speed. Compared to the SF40 barges, the AF D1 features a more balanced armament distribution in the form of two 88 mm flak cannons and two quadruple 20 mm AA autocannons mounted one each on the bow and stern. While the D1's light and heavy guns have a lower volume of fire than that of their predecessors, it offers more versatility in engaging any enemy it could face.
