The development of the VBCI (French: Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie) IFV began in the 1990s with the launch of the French Véhicule Blindé Modulaire (VBM) program. The goal of the program was to create a modular, wheeled, armored vehicle to replace the outdated AMX-10P IFVs. The United Kingdom and Germany soon joined the project. In 1996, a prototype of the joint vehicle, the X8A, was presented at the Eurosatory exhibition. However, three years later, the project reached an impasse due to differing requirements. France then decided to continue development independently. From 2003 to 2005, prototypes underwent various tests, and the first production batch of 200 vehicles entered service on June 23, 2010. All VBCI vehicles in IFV variant are equipped with a 25 mm gun and can carry up to nine troops. Mass production continued until 2018, resulting in the production of a total of 630 IFVs, which are still in service with France to this day.
The VBCI was introduced in Update 2.43 "Storm Warning". It is a fast armored vehicle with a powerful 25mm cannon, a modern thermal imager, and a laser warning system. However, it is quite large and has weak armor and limited maneuverability due to its wheelbase.
