The Lorraine 155 mm was a prototype self-propelled gun developed by Lorraine in 1950 as one of the two spin-off projects of the CA Lorraine tank destroyer (the other being the Lorraine 40t medium tank), intended to be a fast and mobile support vehicle. Two prototypes were produced with slightly different layouts: the Mle.50 and the Mle.51, with centre-mounted and front-mounted casemates, respectively. However, due to the cancellation of the CA Lorraine project as a whole in 1953, along with shifting interest of the French Army to the turreted Batignolles-Chatillon 155 mm—a prototype turreted SPG based on the hull of the Char 25t—the Lorraine 155 mm project was terminated in 1954.
Introduced during Update 1.77 "Advancing Storm" as a reward during the 2018 WW2 Chronicles, the Lorraine 155 Mle.50 is a very interesting self-propelled artillery. Being based on the nimble CA Lorraine chassis, the Lorraine 155 can easily move around the battlefield when needed. Its armament is a powerful 155 mm howitzer that can make short work of most vehicles, and a 20 mm autocannon that can be used to some extent against enemy tanks, but is especially useful against enemy aircraft. The biggest issue with this vehicle is the large, thinly clad hull that is extremely vulnerable to HE shells or strafing aircraft. Another drawback is the slow reload, with 20 seconds minimum using an aced crew.
