General information

The F/A-18C is an American multirole fighter jet that is used by the U.S. military and exported to other countries. In the 1980s, the Swiss Air Force needed a new fighter to defend the country because its fleet of F-5E and Mirage IIIS fighters was becoming obsolete. In 1988, therefore, the Air Force command conducted comparative tests of the F-16 and the F/A-18 aircraft. Based on the results, the Air Force selected the F/A-18. Most of the aircraft were delivered between 1996 and 1999. The Swiss Air Force currently has 25 F/A-18Cs in service.

The Swiss F/A-18C was introduced in Update 2.47 "Leviathans", in the German aviation research tree. Its pros include excellent maneuverability and outstanding handling; however, its weakness is a lack of speed. The aircraft has a wide range of armaments. These include AIM-7P missiles, a large selection of laser-guided bombs and ability to carry up to four AGM-65 missiles.
