The Bf 110 G-2 was a variant of the German twin-engine fighter-bomber Bf 110 that was developed in early 1942. Originally, it was assumed that mass production of the Bf 110 would end with the F variant, after which the new twin-engine Me 210 fighter would be produced. However, due to design errors, the new aircraft was highly problematic. To ensure that the Luftwaffe did not lose its new heavy fighters amid the war, engineers not only redesigned the Me 210 but also modernized the Bf 110. As a result, the Bf 110 of the new G series received a more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 B engine and some aerodynamic improvements. Following the pre-production Bf 110 G-0, the Bf 110 G-2 entered production, becoming the most versatile aircraft in the Bf 110 family. Thanks to the Rüstsatz field weapon kits, the aircraft could serve as a heavy fighter, interceptor, ground-attack aircraft, or bomber. Approximately 800 Bf 110 G-2s were produced from mid-1942 to April 1945.
The Bf 110 G-2 was introduced in Update 1.79 "Project X". It has a good top speed at high altitudes and powerful offensive armament, making it effective at intercepting bombers. The Bf 110 is also effective at destroying ground targets thanks to its impressive 37mm cannon, which has excellent AP shells. That said, its defensive armament is too weak to fend off enemy attacks, and since the aircraft lacks good maneuverability it can become an easy target for single-engine fighters.
